About

We are a couple living in central Auckland, New Zealand embarking on a project in 2013 to return a section of bare farming land in the Hokianga to it’s original state as native bush.

While travelling overseas and volunteering in various conservation projects both in NZ and abroad, we developed a concern for the degrading impact humans are having on the natural world.  We would like to see what we can do personally in our own small way to create and support natural environments that counter this trend. Growing up in New Zealand we have always been close to the bush and the beach, so we decided to set about taking what we had learned about re-forestation and conservation, and applying it here in our own backyard.

While maintaining day jobs in the city, we are also learning about New Zealand native plants and ecology in our spare time – growing native trees and plants from seed and developing the knowledge that we need in order to create a bio-diverse eco-system on our land.

Still very much novices (but with enthusiasm to burn!) we are starting this blog to hopefully make contact with, share knowledge with, and inspire similar people undertaking similar work around the world.
